Arbor Montessori sits on two acres in the heart of Sammamish, WA, with an unparalleled view of the Olympic Mountains and natural landscape. Our neighbors include Sammamish City Hall, the local branch of the King County Library System, and the YMCA. We are connected to over 25 acres of walkable parkland directly from our doorstep, and we take full advantage of getting out and exploring the neighborhood!
On campus, the classrooms are housed in three spacious buildings- The Rainer building, which has two Primary classrooms as well as the Elementary program and main office. The Baker building hosts our Toddler program and two additional Primary classrooms. Lastly, the Tree House is our multipurpose space and staff lounge area.
Our outdoor spaces include playgrounds with large open spaces and plenty of opportunities to explore and play. The play structures were designed by our oldest students, who worked with landscape architect Dar Webb to research and prepare plans for their dream outdoor environment. They then applied for and received a grant to bring their vision to life.
There is a large open field we call the meadow that allows for many children to participate in large outdoor activities and group games. There is a separate fenced space with a natural bioswale known as our nature trail, where students can dive into guided ecology experiences and learn about our native ecosystems and land restoration. Our campus also has a large outdoor covered gym that not only supports our PE program but also allows children to stay dry in the PNW weather, which we are so famous for.
For our 30th Anniversary, a small farm was added to our campus that includes our two miniature horses Sid and Stan, as well as a small flock of chickens. Our toddlers get to stop by and say hi to the animals every day, our Primary program has farming as a specialist program where they start getting introductory lessons learning about the animals on campus and what it takes to run a farm. By the time they join our Elementary Program, they become active farmhands, participating in feeding, grooming, and walking the horses, as well as feeding the chickens and collecting eggs.
We also have a thriving garden on campus. There are four raised garden beds that the children maintain with our Horticulture Specialist. The children have a full farm-to-table experience as they plant, tend, and harvest the flowers, vegetables, and fruits depending on the season. Our produce and chicken eggs are turned into cooking projects throughout the year.
